Optimum Nutrition In Our Hectic Life.
Ahh…much easier said than done.
How exactly does one go about eating “right” for health and fitness while keeping a busy, stressful, sometimes chaotic schedule, either at work or at home?
What IS Optimum Nutrition anyway?
- In a very simple word, optimum nutrition means exactly…well…SIMPLE!
- It means eating more fresh meals (how simpler can it be?)-as in raw veggies and raw fruits-
- It means MORE unprocessed food-If it comes in a frozen box or in a can, it IS processed and loaded with preservatives).
- It means more steamed veggies, not fried.
- More Organic vs Conventional.
- Grilled lean, organic meat and poultry-NOT caramelized- (breading and stuffing adds carbs and calories…keep it SIMPLE.
- Take your most important supplements daily-everybody’s needs are different- but Fish oil capsules and antioxidants are VERY important.
You get the idea.
Optimum Nutrition means giving your body the ‘best of the best’ in terms of the necessary nutrients it needs for excellent performance, not just to get you through the day, or for immediate gratification.
Understanding the dangers of modern, conventional diets, versus a different approach to better regimes specifically created to maintain high levels of health and energy, WILL result in optimum nutrition.
Ultimately, the object is NOT only to lose weight, but also to prevent early physical and mental deterioration due to illness or other mysterious or undiagnosed debilitating symptoms.
It Also Means…
Less cooking but sometimes eating more often or a higher protein ratio vs carbs to maintain constant blood sugar levels, which is the key to prevent diabetes and weight gain.
Keep it simple, carry your brown bag with you if you have to, embarrass yourself, munch on healthy goodies every chance you get. Your friends will make fun of you or look at you funny. ..So what?
You can deal with it!
Your health is worth it
To Put It Another Way…
The same way you shouldn’t wait till your car breaks down on the freeway to take it for repairs, you shouldn’t wait to get sick to start taking strange, prescribed pills to fix your problems.
We are talking disease prevention, weight loss and maintenance, via optimum nutrition.
In fact, the fundamentals for an anti-aging lifestyle are primarily disease prevention- oriented.
Why prevention?
Why worry about prevention? -If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? -
Because our bodies, miracles of miracles, are so infinitely adaptable that they can, and often do, to our detriment, withstand years and years of abuse without showing significant symptoms of any internal tissue or organ damage.
Until they do…
Often times, even when symptoms appear the body continues to do its work years after it decides to ‘speak’ up and scream in pain.
The sad part is, our strong, miraculous bodies are so adept at keeping problems ‘under the radar’ that most lab analysis won’t show abnormal or positive readings for most chronic or degenerative diseases until AFTER the damage has been done!
The role of enzyme production in optimal nutrition
If you’ve ever suffered from heartburn or the all- too familiar, bloated feeling of abdominal gas… you know those were symptoms of poor digestion, didn’t you?
The main reason: insuficient enzyme production to aid in digestion, which of course, it’s usually caused by a lack of raw fruits and vegtables in our diet.
Sure, digestive enzymes are manufactured in our digestive tract and other organs, however, they must first be stimulated by those foods (and chewing action) they need to digest in the first place!
In other words…
A good digestion starts in the mouth! …and the junk food we put in it doesn’t exactly trigger enough natural enzyme production…and the cycle begins, along with the heartburn, acidity and excess bloating, ugh!
Again…learn the abc’s of optimal nutrition. Keep it simple and wholesome.
