Realize Optimal Health Nutrition With Dr. Joseph Mercola

7 Days without exercise makes One weak! ;)

Healthy living, Anti Aging, Optimal nutrition.

All three ‘hot’ topics found all over the media for a reason: The overall health of America is in a major crisis. The statistics regarding our obesity epidemics are staggering; children being diagnosed with diabetes type 2 at age 10, it’s almost unbelievable, especially when with few exceptions, it’s fully preventable. Does learning to prevent obesity or weight related issues directly contribute to a healthy lifestyle?

The answer should be a strong YES obviously…

BUT..as with most things in life, it’s easier said than done.

The concepts of discipline, focus, research, planning, action-REAL action, not just ‘affirmation’ and ‘positive’ thinking-have all been ingrained in our minds by conscientious teachers, parents and mentors right? We know that to succeed in business we must apply those concepts regularly, and we often do.

Strangely, these same values often fail to reflect in the way we treat our bodies.

Why is this so?…
Can’t the strategies we use to reach OTHER life goals be used to implement the changes we badly need if we want to live a healthy, anti aging lifestyle? Is the connection between disease-resistance and nutrition so far fetched and hard to grasp that it eludes millions of people to the point of oblivion? Do we not consider our health worth the effort it takes to keep it performing top notch?

Some quick facts: The body will always strive for balance and each organ in our body will do the job it was designed to do. Take the pancreas, whose major role – when normal – is to regulate blood glucose levels:

You eat a meal> pancreas releases enough insulin to regulate glucose> insulin delivers glucose into cells for energy> pancreas is doing its job.

BUT, what if that meal is high in sugar, or easily converted into sugar as pastas and breads are? Worse, what if those type of meals are ingested three times a day, seven days a week for years on end? You get the pic.

Now, your pancreas is working overtime, trying frantically to do its job of regulating sugar levels, until it no longer do its job well, and the cells are now insensitive to insulin so that they no longer let it in past their membrane…

The result? You feel tired and fatigued because your brain lacks enough glucose to function properly, because it’s now accumulating in the blood, because the pancreas it’s slacking off, because, it’s tired of all that sugar overload…(gulp!)

A few more facts: When healthy, the kidneys maintain the body’s internal balance of water and minerals (calcium, potassium etc). Too much sugar disrupts this delicate balance ultimately damaging the kidneys.

Kidney dialysis, imperfect and painful treatment at best, does not replace kidney function. Treat your kidneys right today, for a better life tomorrow.

This is why The most important and easy ways to prevent weight problems, diabetes, and kidney failure include practicing anti-aging healthy life styles, which revolve to a more wholesome, natural way of eating and a daily dose of exercise. (did I say Prevention?)

A very sad but true fact: Too many people think it’s too much work or too weird to lead a healthier lifestyle..

Strong & healthy at any age

It is all the rage now days: Anti aging meals, anti aging skin creams, treatments,  health spas, and the list goes on. Anti aging health has become so trendy, even teenagers worry about wrinkle cures and wonder about the latest ‘secret’ lotions and potions.

Back when I became interested in this so called anti aging movement, it was simply known as ‘prevention’. I remember reading ‘Prevention’ magazine with fascinating interest, the whole time thinking it was all about going back to basics stuff, the typical you are what you-eat, kind- of- concept. The magazine would feature articles about the direct relationship between body chemistry and nutrition; titles like: eating right to stay healthy, Nutrition- the healthy aging solution, and the importance of vital nutrients to prevent wrinkles were published on a monthly basis.

In other words: optimal nutrition as a direct influence on health and disease prevention.

Fast forward 15-20 years: Enters The Anti-Aging Health Revolution.

As the saying goes; The more things change, the more they remain the same. Things sure are the same when it comes to fitness, nutrition, wellness, and disease prevention. It still revolves about the issue of prevention. During these 20 years, technology has advanced at amazing speed, and the Neutraceutical industry has introduced many great products in the market contributing to this revolution.
They all have the same goal in mind: Prevention.

The Anti-Aging Health ‘Secrets’ have always been out there for us to discover…

During your own quest for health, fitness and prevention, keep in mind that the main secrets for anti-aging health are nothing more than preventive measures that continually strengthen your immune system keeping your body strong and ready for battle:

1- Feed Your Genes Right
Follow the universal law of Human Physiology. Nationality, race, ancestry. Who cares? Your body needs the basic nutrients and in the most proportionate quantities as possible to sustain life: Carbs, Fats, and Proteins. We all know that, but for anti-aging purposes, these nutrients must be optimized (Complex carbs vs Simple Carbs/ Healhy Fats vs Saturated…you get the picture) but most importantly, the most natural and non-processed your meals, the better. Examples: raw fruits-no juices- (digestion starts in your mouth) and veggies, whole wheat grains, and no deli meats.

2-Eat Organic
Whenever possible, buy organic foods. They are a bit more expensive, but worth it.

3-Eat several smaller meals throughout the day
Do your best not to skip breakfast, and eat a small portion of protein source with each meal. This is particularly important, as junk carbs are usually easier to access. Eating this way will keep blood sugar levels constant avoiding dangerous sugar highs and lows, which ultimately lead to fatigue and more sugar cravings; speaking of which…a low glycemic food diet is highly important, it plays a major role in anti-aging health and diabetis prevention.

Ideally, 60-70% of your diet should be fresh fruits and raw or cooked veggies, and the rest 25-40% should include grains, beef, poultry and fish. Keeping processed food at a minimum.

4- Have Your Daily Supplements
However you prefer to add them to your diet: pills, liquids, powders, ready-mix etc. Just do it ;)

5-Exercise
Start thinking seriously about exercising… Find an activity you enjoy. Think there’s nothing you would enjoy? Think again, and think very hard, because you might be surprised once you start doing something you thought you’d never do, next thing you know you’re loving it. Exercise is great for anti-aging health. It literally rejuvenates you almost instantly.

Yeah, I know you skeptics out there thinking, sure, hmm . . . But, it is so true! If you haven’t moved for years, be patient. Good things come to those who wait!…your body will adjust miraculously fast, and the soreness or whatever discomfort will be gone fairly quickly. I promise ;)

Because This Is Not Just Another Diet, It’s A Life Changing Program

co-founder Ideal Protein

Dr. Tran Tien Co-Founder of Ideal Protein

Ideal Protein is an international company that was founded 23 years ago by an award winning nutrition company and Dr. Tran Tien Chanh, a European-Asian Medical Doctor with a PhD in nutrition, sports medicine and biology.

This is a 4-stage retraining-eating plan that helps stabilize the pancreas and blood sugar levels while burning fat and maintaining muscle and other lean tissue. The Ideal plan is for long-term health promotion and weight control; not just another [fad] “diet” that leaves participants with the “Now what?” question after the weight has been lost.

Understanding ‘Syndrome X’

The plan targets prevention and solutions for Syndrome X, also called the “metabolic syndrome.” To qualify as being part of this epidemic that is steamrolling North America, adults or children need only suffer from 2 of the 4 following components of the metabolic syndrome:

1) Obesity

2) Diabetes (Blood sugar issues)

3) Cholesterol problems

4) High blood pressure

Developed Originally To Enhance The Physical Performance of Athletes

The plan was originally developed to secure the muscle mass of high-performance athletes and regulate their insulin levels. Dr. Tran improved the protein source of the original “protein diet” originated in 1973 by Dr. Blackburn, a Harvard University professor. Dr. Tran used this approach with athletes in Europe for over 18 years, also targeting energy and good, safe nutrition.

The Ideal Protein Plan is focused on the pancreas, insulin production, and stabilizing and maintaining weight loss for the long-term. Ideal’s engine is an alkalized and mineralized program made of 4 distinctive nutritional supplements.

Straight From My Personal Trainer Manual: ‘Fitness vs Health: Myths and Facts’

Health is a disease-free state of well-being that allows an individual to experience improved quality of life and independence.

Let’s Define The Terms and Dispel the Health Myths

“Fitness is a criterion-based measure of physical performance. A person does not have to  be fit to be healthy, nor is a person guaranteed health because they are fit.”

Many of the misconceptions surrounding these widely used terms have to do with the idea that both seem synonymous: You are fit, therefore you are healthy. The false premise being if you don’t show any signs of illness such as pain or discomfort, you consider yourself healthy, and if you are able to perform physically, you consider yourself fit.

The Two Major Components Of Physical Fitness Are Either Health-Based or Performance Related

Are You Coachable?

Are You Coachable?

I like ending my posts with that question because it is extremely important that we determine from the start, the level of desire for fitness a prospective client carries with them.

What Does It Mean ‘To Be Coachable’?

By definition, to be Coachable means to accept that we don’t know everything. Being an expert at one specialty might render us ‘ignorant’ -to a certain extent- in other important aspects of our lives. For instance, do you know how exactly does sugar get stored as fat, ending up on your thighs?!)

When we are Coachable, we understand that in many cases other people COULD help us improve, or expand upon whatever knowledge we are lacking . That’s my role; To provide you with sound nutrition and fitness advice.

When we are Coachable we become-or are willing to become-Shape-able and Receptive.

Being Coachable Also Means We Become:

Personal Attention & Motivation To Succeed

My Question To You . . . Are You Coachable?

Here’s the Nitty-Gritty of my approach to weight control: many gym trainers and weight loss programs neglect to address the internal, physiological factors contributing to the weight gain, or obesity, of their clients. I chose to make it the fundamental structure of my services as a coach.

Why So Many Failures?

The reason? Unless we understand the WHY’S… the underlying reasons for ANY behavior or action on our part, we will NOT improve it…or if we do, our chances are extremely slim of it having any lasting effects.

Have you ever tried to learn a different language? I have; and until I learned WHY and HOW certain English sounds were made, and how a simple movement of the lips could make a total different sound was I able to really start making improvements in my pronunciation and accent.

It is the same with any new skill or project, like learning new eating habits and maintaining them for life. If only you knew what will happen to your pancreas if you keep eating donuts for breakfast, it would help you stop. OK. Maybe, maybe not…and many people would rather not know :) Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve Been Asked, “Is There A Difference Between Body Transformation And Muscle Building?”

body transformationToday I wanted to talk about body transformation because I get this question often: ‘What is the difference between body transformation and muscle building?’

Body transformation, is about making lifestyle changes to transform your body by losing weight – it’s not only about bodybuilding – though it can be if you choose to commit further.

The way I explain it is simple: Eat less, watch less TV (or do less of whatever keeps you on your butt, lose excess fat, you’re done…your body starts changing. Immediately. Nothing new here; no big secrets. Your body will get reshaped.

OK, we know it’s not that easy…I have been writing about the many different factors contributing to weight gain (but that’s another story)

Today It’s All About The Basics, The Simple Logic Behind Those Scientific Factors

Fact is: You’re eating more than your body needs to function and you’re moving less. It’s all about immediate gratification and feeling good. (Almost as bad as substance abuse and addictions).

Time To Challenge Your Body, One Pound At A Time…

Start by doing this: Read the rest of this entry »
